One of
the other design goals was to keep the noise down, while at the same
time providing the best possible image.
Most projectors produce a lot of noise during normal
operation. To make sure that the projector was not heard while viewing
in the room, we located it in a room at the front of the screening room.
This room was then treated with acoustical foam to help keep the noise
down. We also made boxes to surround the left, right and center speakers
to insulate this room from the main room.
The projector sits on a tilted platform behind the
wall and fires in to a single mirror reflection system provided by Stewart
Film-Screen. This arrangement allowed us to keep the overall size of
the projection room to a minimum.
In the end, the noise problem was solved while at
the same time, the rear screen arrangement gave us more perceptible
light output and a future upgrade-ability for video conferencing.
