Ford Excursion

This project was an opportunity for us to showcase the first quality work we do on specialty custom installations. The customer initially came to us with very simple requirements for a system that sounded good inside and outside when he was at racing events with excessive environmental auto noise.
The system had to be powerful in order to compete with racing noise, but it had to sound better than anything else around. In simple terms - the customer wanted a big 'wow factor' when he opened the doors at the races.
This is the kind of expert installation that our customer wasn't expecting from a company in the Austin area, so we not only gave him a great sounding vehicle, but a world-class installation.

We talked with the customer about making it look as amazing as we could make it sound, and he expressed interest in custom fabricated enclosures and panels that would look as if they were factory installed and be removeable without damaging the original panels.
Custom kick and door panels were fabricated in our shop to allow for an OEM look to the system. We also gutted the interior panels initially for the optimal Dynamat placement allowable in this application. As a result, we were able to stuff four sets of Polk Audio MOMO 6.5 components into the truck without compromising passenger space and comfort.

The vehicle would be used for a lot of traveling, so a Nakamichi Flagship DVD system was installed with two extra headrest-mounted screens for the backseat passengers.

Normal to all outside appearances, opening the rear of the vehicle revealed some of the most amazing custom work available. In this small space, we fit four Polk Audio MOMO 12" subs, four 400.2 & two 600.2 Phoenix Gold Amplifiers, a Phoenix Gold Powercore, a custom fabricated fiberglass enclosure, and a fiberglass amprack painted to match the vehicle's exterior.

While it's look is incredible and it is stable in its placement, the original interior trim panels were taped before the installation of the enclosure to allow for it to be removed or modified without altering their appearance.

The final product was an amazement to the customer, whose initial vision was a "plain-jane" installation. Instead, he wound up with a functional showpiece, a vehicle that was competition-class, but was still easy to use and sounds as good as it looks.
The first custom project for Danny Barry, it was his opportunity to prove himself at Dyer, to local and national aspects of the mobile audio community, and to the customer, who referred several friends for more custom work. Danny says that despite the complex nature of the installation, it was relatively easy due to the amount of pre-planning that went into every detail of the system.
